"Star Wars" became a global sensation after the franchise's first movie, "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope", released in 1977. Since then, there have been a handful of movies, plus an animated one titled "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", with another, "Star Wars: Episode IX", coming to cinemas in December 2019.

As the franchise has spanned over 40 years, it's without a doubt that there have been a number of stars who have played in various roles throughout the years. Today, we are bringing to you all of the actors of the "Star Wars" franchise, whether they be from past movies, the most recent release, or in next year's "Star Wars: Episode IX"! 


"Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" - 1977
Upon the release of the first "Star Wars" movie, several of this sci-fi adventure's stars were previously unknown to the world, as they had only starred in minor roles or were just rising to fame. Directed by "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, the cast of the first "Star Wars" movie included:

A decade after the sixth (and an animated movie "Star Wars: The Clone Wars"), the seventh "Star Wars" title in the franchise was released, bringing the franchise to life, yet again. Familiar faces were reunited on the big screen after a decade, plus several new faces were introduced, shining light on several previously unknown characters in the Star Wars universe. In 2019, the ninth film in the "Star Wars" franchise will be released, this time directed by illustrious Hollywood director J.J. Abrams. While the cast list has yet to be released, fans of the franchise and viewers of the last two films probably already have an idea about who will star in the next "Star Wars" movie.

It's important to note that the movies were not released in chronological order, which has sparked many controversies regarding what is the proper "order" to watch them in. Die-hard fans could go on for hours about which order is best to watch these movies, but for newbies, it might be a bit harder to understand what exactly is going on without any prior knowledge.
