Let's talk about what's freshly fried this week in the entertainment world! Here's our "Fryday" fry up:
Jessica Chastain to Star in All-Female Spy Film
If the cast is anything to go by, "355" is set to be a real blockbuster! Starring Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Fan Bingbing and Lupita Ngong'o, "355" will follow a group of international spies who must team up against an evil organisation which is intent on getting its hand on a deadly weapon.
Chastain isn't just starring in the film; it was actually her idea. After pitching it to director Simon Kinberg (with whom she worked in the upcoming "X-Men: Dark Phoenix"), he was thrilled with the idea and she went on to personally call her co-stars to ask them if they wanted to join. Chastain, after working with an all-female cast in "The Help" and having experience in the espionage genre in "Zero Dark Thirty", felt inspired to combine the two.
Even more exciting - rumours are that "355" is going to be a franchise!
Taron Egerton to be the Next Robin Hood
We haven't had a movie about everyone's favourite outlaw and his merry men for about 8 years, so it's about time for this new version of Robin Hood! Taron Egerton ("Kingsman" franchise, "Eddie the Eagle") will star, with Little John being played by Jamie Foxx, Friar Tuck by Tim Minchin and Robin's love-interest, Maid Marion, will be Eve Hewson.
Directed by Otto Bathurst, "Robin Hood" will be released on November 23.
Trailer for C.J. Obasi's "Hello Rain" Released
After 16 months of hard work and much anticipation, the incredibly talented C.J. Obasi's has released the trailer for his latest short movie "Hello Rain"! The movie is based on Nnedi Okorafor's short story "Hello Moto". A futuristic story of three witches who use spells and science to create magical wings, "Hello Rain" sounds like the perfect mix of sci-fi and mystery, as well as bringing a new fantastical twist on good versus evil.
"Hello Rain" stars Keira Hewatch, Tunda Aladese and Ogee Nelson and will premiere tomorrow at the 64th International Short Film Festival, in Oberhausen, Germany. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think in the comments!
Jade Osiberu Working on New Crime Drama
Jade Osiberu, who directed last year's fabulous "Isoken" has announced her new project. "Nigerian Trade" is inspired by real life and has demanded a year of intensive research. After hearing that Nigeria is now sadly the global leader in kidnapping for ransom (overtaking Columbia and Mexico), Osiberu decided to tell the story in film.
"Nigerian Trade" centres on Eric, a hugely successful and ruthless kidnapper who manages to escape being caught time and time again, despite being the target of authorities for decades.
As "Isoken" was 2017's third highest-grossing movie, we can't wait to see Osiberu's next work!
